ABOUT

Conference Purpose

Due to the biggest regional and global crisis in coronavirus (Covid-19), the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) will be affected through health systems, economies, and societies. Faced with an unprecedented situation, governments are focused on bringing the disease under control and reviving their economies. The energy sector is also severely affected by this crisis, which has slowed transport, trade and economic activity across the globe. With widespread global-scale lockdowns, productivity and stable supply of the energy industry are challenged not only during the special period but also critically for global and national response and recovery. Efforts and remedies implemented during this time are of significance since they help to inform policy and government actions and provide recommendations for enterprises to make optimal decisions to avoid risks. At the same time, society is experiencing significant changes in personal behaviors such as in human mobility and work, which will further have major impacts on energy consumption and the environment across many sectors such as buildings, transportation, manufacturing and services.

The 15th GMSARN International Conference 2020 (GMSARN 2020) which is organized and technically supported by Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) will be held during December 21-22, 2020 at Krungsri River Hotel, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Thailand. The aim of the conference is to focus on sustainable energy, environment, climate change transitions, and development in GMS countries to shape its future. To address these critical issues, the International Conference 2020 on “Sustainable Energy, Environment, and Climate Change Transitions in GMS ” is a one and a half days platform for knowledge dissemination by a diverse group of researchers and participants.

The rationale of the GMSARN 2020 is to initiate and stimulate international discussions and provide a platform to share the most recent ideas and innovations across the above sectors and enhance interdisciplinary research collaboration. The conference can be used as an international platform on regional and trans-boundary perspectives. Therefore, it can contribute to sustainable development related to energy, environment and climate change. In this aspect, GMSARN conference is a unique hosting a wide range of various disciplines that would generate shared solutions and ideas to existing problems. In addition, this conference provides an ecosystem to disseminate the research and findings of development on various innovative and sustainable developments in GMS. It is also envisaged that the conference will benefit GMS education and research programs. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:  Energy, Environment, Development and Sustainability.
